Art Update - Talking Heads

While drawing for FIST CHAMPION I've been painfully aware that my character expression chops are pretty very weak. Along with that, drawing characters in the round has alway been a weakness of mine. So I've begun working on that.
These are heads that I drew while exploring the character Mr. President, CEO of Big Yen. I've noticed when I draw a face fairly straight on, there is a level of confidence in the sketchwork that is less present in the others. The only solution I know for this is more sketching. Also, it may be time to crack open Loomis again. Also, I should really start attending figure drawing sessions at DigiPen again.

These are all things that could improve my figure sketches.

The scanner has not arrived at my place yet, but I used free shipping, and Amazon estimates it won't arrive until the 2nd of June. (So what're ya gonna do, amirite?) In the meantime, I've been working on some scripting in the game. Next up is adding some polish to the rounds system. I need there to be more visual feedback so the player understands what is going on. So, lots of numbers floating around the screen to let people know when the round is starting or when points are being added and taken away. Also, I should really look at making some sound effects during rounds for the characters.

Memorial Day Update - Sketched It Through The Wilderness

I wanted to share a few of the drawings I've been doing for FIST CHAMPION in order to better illustrate (...) what it is that I've been up to.
Big Yen Board Room
This is the first sketch I did when I bit the bullet and decided to bust out larger comps to put in the game. There is basic tone added using a waterbrush (Thanks Jenn!).
The Shipyard
This is the stage for "Rosie the Riveter". I may have to change the name for that character though, since I've yet to conclusively figure out if she's under copyright. Maybe "Tulip the Tank Welder"?
Underground Lab
For as long as I can remember into my childhood, I have been fascinated with the idea of secret underground laboratories. I think that's pretty normal, though... Right? Anyway: This is a secret lab that is the stage for a character I haven't shown you yet. Let's just say that not all super soldiers are made of flesh and blood.

This last sketch I did at a Starbucks while hanging out with my good friend Nicholas Rubatino. He has also been working on something pretty extraordinary. You should Check Him Out.

I hope you're digging these as much as I am, because It's been really wonderful moving forward and producing more content for my game.

Until Next Time...

Side Note

I've been doing plenty of drawing for FIST CHAMPION. Most of this work I would like to put directly in to the game for at least placeholder purposes. However, as I've stated in previous blog posts: I do not possess a scanner. That just changed. I just placed an order for an inexpensive Canon flatbed scanner, and it should be here in a few days. I hope you're all ready for a major content update.

Art Post 2: I Really Need A Scanner.

Hey look! An art post! Only missed a whole week, but at least I'm getting better at this stuff.

First up! a picture related to FIST CHAMPION.

These are some thumbnails for upcoming stages. I did some more, but these were the ones that I wanted to share right now. You'll notice that one is called Olympic Stadium... If you consult the list I made a few weeks back it will become abundantly clear that I have no such stage listed. That must mean it belongs to one of the Unknowns... Secrets ABOUND.

Next up is just an example of a page from my sketchbook that I did while binge watching Star Trek: TNG. Bottom middle is a rather skeptical looking Wesley Crusher.

Last but definitely not least is a picture of my brother Dan as a Wookie. Why? Reasons... That's why. Also, why the hell not?

Work on FIST CHAMPION is picking up for me again after a mental health week I needed to take. Yesterday alone I implemented several features that I had been putting off out of fear of their enormity. There should be a new build in the not too distant future, so be on the look out for that. Also, I am drawing more again. It sounds so stupid easy, but it is amazing how difficult it can feel to just pick up a pencil and go to it. Let's hope I can keep this good vibration going.

Until Next Time.

No Excuses

I have not been updating my blog. Worse than that, I haven't been putting the effort into my game that I should. Sure, I have been drawing every now and then for the past week, but that's not good enough. Today I am going to sit down and spend some serious time with FIST CHAMPION. Let's see where this goes.

Today I want to:
 - Implement a rounds system
 - Hook up the GUI art into the actual timers and counters
 - Begin the framework for the powerup system

It's a short list, but these are all big hurdles that I've been afraid to work on. Bear with me while I work on this today.
